Outreach Community Center – Villagebrook (OCC-V) is getting artsy! Thanks to a new program that launched this summer, Art at Villagebrook, adult residents in the community are able to enjoy fellowship while exploring their creative side.
The group, led by long-time OCC volunteer Ruth Cleghorn, meets monthly. Marissa Sabio, Villagebrook program coordinator, says, “We’re so blessed to bring Ruth’s artistic talent to the Villagebrook community!”
Since its start, residents have had the opportunity to work with various media such as soft pastels and acrylic paints to produce individual works. Sometimes the project is inspired by artists including Henri Matisse and Frank Stella.
Residents have responded enthusiastically to the class; many have expressed gratitude for the opportunity to get out of their apartments and meet their neighbors, try something new, and create art for themselves. “I enjoy it so much when I come; why should the kids have all the fun?” remarked one resident. “I hope they add a second class so we can meet twice a month!”
Outreach Community Center – Villagebrook is a satellite site of Outreach Community Center in Carol Stream, offering after-school and summer programs for 2nd-4th grade students as well as case management services and community development opportunities for those living in the Villagebrook Apartments in Carol Stream. All activities of Outreach Community Center – Villagebrook are supported by Full Circle Communities.
