Full Circle Communities Celebrates Grand Re-Opening of Brainerd Senior Center
Nearly $21 million reinvestment modernizes and preserves 60 affordable homes in Chicago’s Brainerd neighborhood
CHICAGO — Full Circle Communities celebrated the completion of a comprehensive renovation of Brainerd Senior Center on Friday with a grand re-opening event at the affordable senior apartment community located at 8915 S. Loomis St. in Chicago’s Brainerd neighborhood.
Brainerd Senior Center is a six-story affordable residential community offering 60 apartments, including studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom homes for older adults. Originally completed in 2001, the property was acquired by Full Circle Communities in 2021 as part of the organization’s commitment to preserving affordable housing and ensuring long-term stability for residents.
Full Circle Communities closed on financing and commenced construction in August 2024, launching a nearly $21 million reinvestment to modernize the building, increase accessibility, and improve long-term sustainability.
“This renovation reflects our commitment to preserving affordable housing opportunities so older adults can age in place with dignity,” said Lindsey Haines, interim President and CEO of Full Circle Communities. “By reinvesting in Brainerd Senior Center, we are strengthening a community that will remain affordable, accessible, and supportive for residents well into the future.”
The rehabilitation included extensive interior and exterior improvements throughout the building, with a focus on accessibility upgrades, energy efficiency, and resident comfort. Notably, the project includes a rooftop solar energy system and other enhancements designed to reduce energy usage and the property’s overall carbon footprint.
Residents have access to a variety of amenities, including a community room, laundry facilities, storage rooms, and outdoor patios. On-site supportive services are provided in partnership with Christian Community Health Center and focus on health and wellness programming, recreation, and social activities that support residents’ independence and quality of life.
The renovation of Brainerd Senior Center was made possible through partnerships with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Illinois Housing Development Authority, the City of Chicago, Representative Jonathan Jackson, National Equity Fund, the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago, BMO Bank, and ComEd.
The development team included GMA Construction Group as general contractor and Cordogan, Clark & Associates as Architect.
